Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel : Staycation Review
Woo hoo ... Our first official sponsored Staycation.
We have been invited to a few overseas resorts, but a staycation in Singapore still eluded us. Thus when the opportunity arose to check into the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza hotel over the F1 weekend, we eagerly zoomed into it.
Marriott Tang Plaza also has a special place in the family's heart. After all, this is where the magic started with a wedding held more than a decade back. So it was great to be back where it all started.
CHECK IN
Marriott Tang Plaza |
Getting to Marriott Tang Plaza is a breeze. Marriott Tang Plaza has a direct link to the Orchard underpass for those who are not driving. One of the most iconic buildings in the heart of Orchard Road, you would not overlook the unique red rooftop that made it look like a modern pagoda.
Opened in 1995, the 20-floor high hotel had an SG 35 million facelift in 2012.
The lobby |
The lobby with the high roof is a breath of fresh air. With ample seating area for guests, checking it is as comfortable as possible.

ACCOMMODATION
The Room |
It was off to our rooms after the check-in. Yes... it is rooms with an s. Thanks to Marriott Tang's plaza, we were housed in 2 connecting deluxe rooms for the night.
King size bed |
Our rooms come in a king-size bed and two super single bed combinations, making them perfect for a family of four. In addition, the rooms looked sleek with contemporary furnishing.
Each room had the signature Marriott Revive bedding that was an absolute delight to sleep in.
Double bedroom |
Surprisingly each room was spacious enough to let the kids run around in delight. Each road can house up to 3 guests with the option of a rollaway bed. With a decent size of 32 sims per room, we have acres of space to move around during our stay.
The marble-clad toilets come with double sinks (for some rooms) and a corner for makeup and hair drying. Thann branded amenities are also available.
The mini bar is fully loaded with beverages and tidbits for a fee.
Wire and wireless internet are also available for a fee. One tip, join them as a member, and wireless internet comes complimentary.
Room Amenities |
As for the TV, it has one of the giant TV screens we have seen in hotels for a deluxe room. A 46 TV with cable TV is available in the standard rooms. Perfect for watching F1 qualifying race while we were there.
F1 race |
Go, Ferrari, go!
There is a special SG 50 special for rooms booked till year-end.
SG 50 |
It included an SG 50 goodie bag that contained old-school games and tidbits. In addition, other benefits include daily breakfast, dining credit, spa credit and more. Do check here for details.
The SG goodies bag came in handy to entertain the boys during their stay at Marriott.
Old maid |
Marriott has also launched a Marriott mobile app that allows you to make requests for whatever you need before, during and after your stay!
It is as easy as sending a text.
Since we were well taken care of during our stay, we did not get a chance to use it. Nonetheless, it is a handy tool for guest to bring their wimps and fancies with a text.
Marriott Mobile App |
Overall the room was so comfy that we couldn't wait to jump into bed!
FACILITIES
Swimming pool
Swimming pool |
Before we jumped into bed, an exciting location caught our eyes during lunchtime.
The pol |
Since no kid's clubs exist at Marriott Tangs Plaza, the pool would be a great alternative to entertain this kid.
Let's jump |
Jumping into the pool sure beats jumping into bed anytime!
Wait for me! |
We spotted this row of rooms along the poolside. These pool villas come with their own private space; they are located steps away from the pool.
If you choose to stay in one of these rooms, you would feel like you are staying in a resort instead of a hotel.
Pool room |
24-hour gym
Gym |
For those who need a little more exercise, the healthy stock gym of Marriott would please most gym rats. Best of all, it is opened 24 hours a day. So get huffing and puffing!
The Retreat ( Spa)
The Retreat @ Mariott |
After hard work, it is time to retreat to The Retreat. Too bad we could not leave the kids alone even though we badly needed one of these pampered moments.

RESTAURANTS
Of of the activities locals like to indulge in is food. Marriott Tang Plaza has a wide array of restaurants for you to choose from. You can choose ala carte or buffet style from international to Chinese cuisines.
Pool Grill
Pool Grill |
Our first meal was taken at the Pool Grill. This newly renovated al fresco dining spot is a breath of fresh air.
Pool Grill @ Marriott |
Choose your pick from set lunches, a la carte and Western brunch delights While you do by the poolside.
Set lunch |
As for the food itself, it was a delight for both kids and adults. A special menu for kids serves favourites like fried rice and Crispy chicken and fries. I had the minute steak, which was cooked to perfection. An absolute yum.
Set Lunch |
Go during the evening for dinner. The romantic candles living the way promise a romantic evening dining under the stars in the city's heart. It will make an excellent spot for Valentine's dates.
Dine under the stars. |
Mariott Cafe
The next restaurant we sampled was the Marriott Cafe for breakfast.
One word...WOW!
There were more than 50 dishes to sample from the breakfast Buffett. The lunch and dinner options will be equally impressive. This is the place for a hearty meal that deserves a review. That said, look out for our coming review on Marriott Cafe!
Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant
I ate at Wan Hao last during the wedding dinner taste test. It may be a long time, but I remember the exquisite meal. This elegant, award-winning Cantonese cuisine is still very much appreciated. The signature Crisp Peking Duck with Chinese Crepes, Dim Sum and fresh seafood delicacies is a must-try if you are there.
Ginza Sushi Ichi
Ginza Shushi Ichi |
This is a Michelin-starred Sushi restaurant. This means fine and authentic Japanese food freshly delivered from the Tsukiji market. A treat for that special occasion
Crossroad Cafe
Crossroad Cafe |
Crossroad Cafe will be the place to be if you like to watch the world go by. Here is the place to be seen and to see. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Java +
Java + offers good coffee, a selection of cheese, and sandwiches for a quick bite. This Deli is excellent for those looking for good food on the go.
Lobby Lounge

A lobby lounge is also suitable for coffee or afternoon tea.

Breakfast and cocktails are served in the Executive lounge as well.
Private Dining

Lastly, if you prefer, dine in the privacy of your room by ordering room service. Then, a pizza for hungry kids would be delivered in the middle of the night with just a phone call.
ACTIVITIES TO DO
So what do you do during a Staycation in Orchard Road?
Shop at Tangs
Shopping at Tangs |
We think shopping at Tangs will be a good choice. We can shop till we drop and be in bed in 5 minutes. How cool is that?
Given Christmas is just around the corner, spending a night at Marriott after an intense shopping spree for guests would be a great idea.
Explore Orchard Road
Orchard road is more than just a shopping belt. Frequent mall performances and special events lined up at various times of the year. Special events such as pedestrian night and Christmas light up will be a hit amongst families. So plan your staycate around those days for an immersive Orchard Road experience.
For the full events lineup for the year, check them out here.
Enjoy the hotel facilities.
Relax at the hotel |
For the non-shoppers, simply enjoying the hotel facilities would be a great alternative. The pool would take a couple of hours to watch the time pass.
Marriott Tang Plaza @ Night |
If you are looking for a good deal to stay at Marriott, head down to their promotion site for the occasional great deals. One night in the heart of the city is never enough, so book for 2 days to enjoy living in the city. It sure beats spending millions of dollars to buy an apartment in the heart of Orchard Road for the same experiences!
