TLC (The Little Company) latest adaptation of Treasure's Island checks all the necessary boxes and promises to be a musical that will provide exhilarating and hilarious moments to both young and old.
It's an open secret that we love SRT - TLC Productions. Having first experienced them 3 years back, we had been regulars to their shows ever since. With familiar content and age appropriate musicals suitable for 3 - 12, SRT - TLC had been providing consistently excellent production that always add a little twist to the tale. Regardless of the storyline, TLC has always been a hit with the kids.

Here is the synopsis for the show
A new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's popular novel of the same name, Treasure Island follows the adventure of Jim Hawkins, a lion-hearted 13-year-old girl who receives a treasure map from a kooky old seaman. Jim is tasked to help find the hidden treasure, but the road to riches is never smooth sailing.
A swashbuckling, action-packed musical about friendship and trust. This exhilarating show for the entire family will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Here are 5 reasons why we think Treasure Island is suitable for families
1 A Fantastically Talented Cast
We recognized a few familiar faces from past SRT productions as well as new ones. All are equally talented with some of them taking on multiple roles in the play. Ann Lek ( Jim Hawkins ) deliver a fine performance as the Lead, while newcomer to SRT , Dwanye Lau (Long John Silver / Black Dog) is as evil as evil can be ... in a good way. Other cast members hold their own and shone with their hilarious acting, singing and choreography.

TLC never disappoints with their colourful costumes and elaborate sets. DBS Arts Center may not be a big stage, but with great set and costumes, it does add alot of presence to the musical
3 Songs that is catered to the little ones
No fancy lyrics, no complicated plot. This is one tale that is made with the young audience in mind. There is no problem for the little ones to follow the tale even when you did not read the book.

Fancy a sword fight all over the theatre. This is what the crew did as they duel from the stage to go one round around the theatre. This one act itself extracted ohs and ahs among the little ones in the audience.
Who does not enjoy a wacky sword fight?
5 A Touching Tale
We like tales that would teach a lesson or two to the young ones. For Treasure Island, we learn that friendship is the real treasure and worth more than any treasure in the world. These well thought values would go down with parents and provide them with an opportunity to reinforce such positive messages to their child.
In a nutshell, TLC Treasure Island will be a great show for the family. As usual , TLC hits their production, meant for families with young kids, out of the ball park.
Treasure Island will be showing at DBS Arts Centre from 30 Oct to 13 Dec
